Student Support
Information, Advice & Guidance
Students are at the heart of the London Business College and your welfare is our priority. Our aim is to provide you with the best unbiased support to help you make the most informed choice. Here are just a few ways that the College will aid and support you during your studies.
Accommodation
Prospective students should arrange accommodation in advance of their arrival in London. You are strongly advised to book this for a minimum period of one week to allow you to visit the College, get to know the area and consider where you will live for the duration of the course. (See Location.)
The College can offer support to find you accommodation. There is a variety of rental accommodations to consider, including hostels, lodgings, bed-sits, flats or house-shares. Sharing a rented property with friends is a popular option and can reduce costs. .
Resources
The College has a well-stocked library with a good selection of books and reference material relevant to all programmes studied at the College. Our Computer Lab is also equipped with high-speed broad, free access to the internet and e-mails, and a range of software.
Programmes
The London Business College has a range of courses and our Information Advice and Guidance service can help you make the right choice.
Our staff are trained to be impartial and treat all students with confidentiality. The process is focused on the paramount needs of the student. We believe that all learners have equality of opportunity to participate in activities which can lead to success. Student input is treated with respect and positively encouraged in this process with all feedback welcomed in our suggestion box situated in Reception. We make every effort for our courses to be accessible and if you need extra assistance please contact your tutor or any other member of staff. Your concern will be dealt with politely and confidentially.
Our administration team are ready to help you with your application form and take you through our course portfolio to help you make the right choice. Publicly funded courses are sometimes offered to students who are eligible under the rules outlined by a funding body, such as the Skills Funding Agency, London Development Agency and the European Social Fund. These courses generally cover vocational training and qualifications, which start at Entry Level and progress to Level 3. Subject areas cover ESOL, Health and Social Care, ICT, Business Administration, Computing, Customer Service, Team Leading and Management.
Health care
Health treatment is offered free of charge to British citizens and overseas students attending full-time courses, although a charge is made for dental and optical treatment. Students are advised to register with a general practitioner and dentist as a matter of priority.
Social Programmes
We have a vibrant student population with many activities to participate in. Students are encouraged to set up social groups to create events and share experiences. The College regularly arranges tours to attractions and historic sites, and also have corporate links for work experience.
Financial
If you need a bank account in the UK, the College will provide a letter confirming your student status. If you need to pay your fees in instalments, we will be happy to discuss a suitable easy payment plan at your induction. As an international student, you will be exempt from Local Council Tax.
Oyster
Oyster is a scheme run by Transport for London. As a student, you can receive a 30' discount on rail, bus and underground services. We will help you fill in the forms and guide you to the necessary ticket office.
Tutor Support
All students at the London Business College receive tutor support, face-to-face and by email. We take pride in the fact that communication channels are always open. Any issues with course work or College matters are dealt with promptly and within 2 working days.
Child Care
There is a range of child care facilities available in the borough of Greenwich.
Immigration Issues
There are Solicitors in our area that specialise in this matter. Please inform us if you require their services.
Airport pick-up
If you are arriving in the UK for the first time, a member of staff can meet you at the airport. If you require this, you must inform the Registrar of your flight details and times as soon as possible. This should include the airline, flight number, date and time of departure and arrival, and flight cancellation. Students will pay the cost of transport.
Initial Assessment Process
When you first start on your journey to a qualification or improving your skills and knowledge we will initially carry out an assessment. This will tell us if you need any additional support with your course, special access to the premises, assistance with using a computer because of a disability, or even a little more time than usually required. This assessment will be confidential. If you have any issues after the assessment please ask to speak to the Training Manager.
Referral Service
In the case of the College not being able to fully assist you we will always signpost you to another appropriate provider. This may be because we don't provide the course that matches your requirements, you need childcare, health issues, financial advice or help from your local Councillor. Please note that you may be eligible for help towards the costs of your course and related costs including travel and childcare. This will depend on factors such as your personal circumstances and the course you apply for. Students must be resident in the UK/EU and have lived in England for the three years preceding the start of the course applied for. For further details, contact the College Training Manager or view
